TUESDAY, MARCH 18th at 7:30 p.m.

Join us on a journey of the imagination!  Stories on Stage, which features some of Chicago's finest actors reading short stories by some of the world's finest authors, is back for a live performance.

Between 1992 and 2007, Stories on Stage presented more than 125 live performances, primarily at the Museum of Contemporary Art, and 130 broadcasts on Chicago Public Radio, featuring selections from those live performances.  If you've missed the show, or if you used to listen to it, but never attended a live performance, here's your chance!

The program will feature readings of three stories including:

"Returns and Exchanges" by Elizabeth Berg, read by Judy Blue
(Note: Author Elizabeth Berg will attend the reception and performance; we will also have a book to give away in a drawing at the reception that she can sign for you.)

Elizabeth Berg is the author of 24 published books and many published articles.  She has been on the New York Times Bestseller list multiple times. Durable Goods and Joy School were both selected as one of the American Library Association's Best Books of the Year. Talk Before Sleep was shortlisted for the Abby (American Bookseller's Book of the Year). Open House was an Oprah's Book Club Selection. In 1997, Elizabeth won the New England Booksellers Award for her body of work.  She has been translated into 27 languages.  Her story, "Returns and Exchanges" was commissioned by Stories on Stage in 2002 as part of its special event entitled "Connecting . . . the Socks," in which three authors were given the same opening line to begin their story.  It can be found in her collection, The Day I Ate What I Wanted: And Other Small Acts of Liberation.

Reader Judy Blue has read for Stories on Stage many times over the years.  She has performed in productions at the Goodman, Steppenwolf, and Writers Theatre among many other major Chicago theatres.  Her TV appearances include "Chicago PD."

"The Man Who Invented the Calendar" by B.J. Novak, read by David Pasquesi

B.J. Novak is a writer and actor best known for his work on NBC's Emmy Award-winning comedy series "The Office" as an actor, writer, director, and executive producer. He is also known for his stand up comedy performances and his roles in motion pictures such as Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" and Disney's "Saving Mr. Banks." He is a graduate of Harvard University with a degree in English and Spanish literature.  His first collection of short stories, "One More Thing: Stories and More Stories," has just been published to great acclaim.

Reader David Pasquesi has also read for Stories on Stage several times over the years.  As an actor, his most recent appearance was in "God of Carnage" at the Goodman Theatre.  He has also performed at Steppenwolf, and Lookingglass theatres among others.  A Second City alum, and an award-winning improv actor, he performs regularly as part of "TJ and Dave" at the Barrow Street Theatre in NY and around the country.  He  also had a recurring role on "The Boss" on Starz with Kelsey Grammar.

"Balloon Night" by Tom Barbash, read by Kevin Theis

Tom Barbash's story is from his acclaimed collection, "Stay Up With Me."  Barbash is the author of the award-winning novel "The Last Good Chance," and the non-fiction book "On Top of the World: Cantor Fitzgerald, Howard Lutnick, and 9/11; A Story of Loss and Renewal," which was a New York Times bestseller.  His stories and articles have been published in Tin House, McSweeney's, Virginia Quarterly Review, and other publications and have been performed on National Public Radio's "Selected Shorts" series.  He currently teaches in the MFA program at California College of the Arts.

Kevin Theis is a veteran Stories on Stage reader.  A Chicago actor for over 25 years, Kevin is a member of the Seanachai Theatre Company and recently completed a four month run of their critically acclaimed production of "The Seafarer" by Conor McPherson.  He has also worked at the Goodman Theatre, Next Theatre, Lifeline, City Lit, Peninsula Players and the Oak Park Festival Theatre, among many others.

The program will be directed by long-time Stories on Stage artistic team member,
Judy O'Malley, and produced by founder Kathe Telingator.

Please join us for a reception after the performance featuring tea donated by DAVIDsTEA, an array of delicious desserts, and an opportunity to meet with the actors, director and author, Elizabeth Berg.
