TRIO: World Fusion Music
TRIO is a refreshingly unique group that offers a range of styles and cultural sources that has never been heard before. Each player has a rich and diverse background that encompasses many years - and layers - of classical, new age and world music experience. And the one unifying factor is each of the three players are masters of improvisation and ensemble technique. This potent combination is a recipe for soaring melodies, complex rhythms and a deep ambient peace.
Nancy Rumbel is a well-known master of oboe, English horn and ocarina, and a Grammy award-winning artist who established her world-music credits with none other than the famous Paul Winter Consort. She has continued a lengthy and stellar career with a variety of top-tier artists including the beloved duo Tingstad & Rumbel and the virtuoso cellist, Jami Sieber. She performs and tours regularly and is in high demand both as a stage and recording studio artist.
David Michael is a multi-instrumentalist and composer of many talents with vast experience as a Celtic harp master. His past collaborations with flutist Randal Mead spanned decades and numerous recordings and he has always had an interest and a resonance with compositions featuring haunting melodies and ambient textures. He has a great love for eastern music as well and has numerous wonderful collaborations to his credit.
Richard Russell is a life-long devotee of Indian music and received his training from world-renowned master musician Ali Akbar Khan. He plays the sarod, a 25-string fretless lute, and is also a kirtan (chant) singer and keyboardist He learned the intricacies of Raga (melody) and Tala (rhythm) at the world-famous Ali Akbar College of Music. He was a sarodist and composer with the ground-breaking world fusion group, 'Ancient Future', and now leads and composes for his own world music kirtan ensemble, 'Shantikar'.
