10th Annual Accordion Noir Festival: Drink-o Bingo
Grayson Walker of Hearse (Victoria) brings Drink-o Bingo to Vancouver for a special first time ever Accordion Only Bingo Night with prizes, musical acts and lots more. Grayson will also perform a solo set of original tunes. Other musical acts and performers (TBA) will join him for this roller coaster ride of an evening that will kick off the festival in proper Noir style. Here is a link to the weird and wonderful Drink-o Bingo theme song, one of many of Grayson's multifaceted musical creations. https://soundcloud.com/graysonwalker_music/drinko-bingo-original-theme
Ana Bon-BonBon-Bon plays her accordion as a rhythm box, layering blues, country, show-tunes, and bump & grind rhythms in songs and performances developed from vaudeville, jump blues, Delta & Chicago blues, '50s Hollywood, depression-era music, spirituals, and western swing. After a five year stint on the UK club and pub circuit, Ana is back in Vancouver hosting the weekly Sundays for Sinners jams at the Princeton Pub. Miss Bon-Bon shows her versatile chops in rockin solo sets, and in collaborations that range from swingin country to groovy BBQ blues, featuring a rotating cast of notables including drummers Taylor Little and Sandy Bone Smith, Yukon fiddler Amelia Rose Slobogean and guitarist Double D Dykhuizen.
Shelder the Electric Clamfish is a multi-instrumentalist and storyteller who was born on the Westcoast but who has been based in in Halifax for many years. She will start the night off with original sea shanties and bawdy ballads created during her years travelling as a nomadic musician throughout Canada. Her songs are inspired by legends and folk tales from across the land and her music draws upon east-coast sounds with a unique twist all her own.
Something about Reptiles will close out the evening with a set of Surf Turk dance music to set your Turkish Delight on fire. One of the original voices of dissent in Vancouver, the Reptiles are led by Burcu Ozdemir a Turkish Canadian singer, mother, and vintage clothing magnate. Ranging through sardonic sarcasm, sensual coaxing, and in your face passionate rants, Burcu leads her band of musical superstars through fearless and emotional renditions of nostalgic and ironic pop songs steeped in Turkish motifs. Band members include a rockin line up of top Vancouver musicians including Noah Walker, Alison Jenkins, Elliot Vaughan, Katheryn Petersen, Amrit Basi and Michael Alleyne. Reptile parties are legendary and can move all to "bosver", or in English, dance, and not give a fuck anymore!
