Contra Dance for Green Sangha
Have a ball while supporting awakened action! Contra dance combines live music, physical exercise, and socializing in ways that are fun and creative. If you can walk, if you can turn around, you can do contra dancing and have a great time.
Music: John Caulfield, Irish fiddle and mandolin; Kyle Thayer, guitar and fiddle Caller: Stuart Moody, program director of Green Sangha
The dance will benefit Mindful Leadership training for Homeward Bound of Marin and for teens in detention in Contra Costa.
"Americans have contra danced since the Revolutionary period. They combined ideas from French and English country dancing, with their own Yankee ways of having fun, and came up with contra dancing. It is a social dance akin to square dancing that has retained its simple, open, community-oriented spirit. . . . With a little courage, a sense of adventure, and a spirit of community energy, you too can be enjoying this traditional social activity. You do not need to know how to dance, nor do you need to bring a partner. All dances will be taught and prompted by a caller with a live, acoustic band." -- Rob Craighurst
Wear comfortable, supportive shoes that you can walk a mile in, and dress to dance!
Silent Auction includes: ocean painting; hand-turned wood bowl; relationship consultation with Ilene Wolf, MFT; and more.
