Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market: A Solo Performance by Jennifer Jewell
Deep in the Smoky Mountains, Laura and Lizzie live an unspoiled rural life, drawing water every evening from a stream. Each twilight, with their buckets in hand, they hear the cunning cries of goblins calling children to their fantastical bazaar. Impetuous Laura is first to heed the goblin call, tempted by the lure of their forbidden fruit. But like so many temptations, there are fatal consequences and soon, the goblins abandon her to die. Prudent Lizzie finds her sibling withered and pale and resolves to make whatever sacrifice she must to save her sister.
Poet Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market weaves themes of sisterhood, salvation, and enchantment into a solo performance that is both relevant and accessible to all ages and cultures. A superb storyteller, NYC actress Jennifer Jewell draws the audience into the magical world of Rossettis poem. A spellbinding performance every time, Goblin Market engages the imaginations of both children and adults alike.
The original score was produced and arranged by Nashville's Chris Tench and performed by musicians Fats Kaplin, Chris Tench, Dave Collela, and Rosemary Stewart. It was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Brett Ryan Stewart for The Sound Shelter (thesoundshelter.com)
