KAHILU QUINTET: Kenny Endo Contemporary Ensemble Concert
Taiko Master Kenny Endo is the vanguard of the taiko (Japanese drum) genre. A consummate artist, Endo blends taiko with rhythms from around the world into original melodies and improvisation. He continues to pave new paths in this Japanese style of drumming even after 42 years as a career taiko player.  He joins forces with four other outstanding musicians in the Kahilu Ensemble:  Abe Lagrimas, Jr. is a drum prodigy, vibraphone extraordinaire, and ukulele swooner that is one of the most sought after musicians in the southern California area. Home for a visit, Abe makes a rare Hawaii appearance with Endo for this concert. Todd Yukumoto is recognized as Hawaii's premier classical sax player, member of the Royal Hawaiian band, and can be heard in jazz clubs all around town. Yi-Chieh Lai is a guzheng master from Taiwan currently living in Honolulu. She is amazing on the delicately beautiful guzheng, the predecessor to the Japanese string koto. Patrick Oiye is a gifted musician. Originally trained on the guitar, he has received much acclaim as a Tsugaru shamisen player. Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear the Kahilu Quintet - Kenny Endo Contemporary Ensemble!
