Santa Cruz Art of Guitar Exhibition & Festival: Laurence Juber & Andrew York Live at Colligan Theater!
GRAMMY® winning guitarist Laurence Juber is a solo performer, recording artist, composer and arranger. His playing fuses folk, jazz, blues, pop and classical styles, creating a multi-faceted performance that belies the use of only one instrument. A music graduate of Londons Goldsmiths College, he was featured guitar soloist with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra before becoming established as a studio musician in the mid-1970s. First internationally recognized as lead guitarist in Beatle Paul McCartney's Wings, with whom he won a Grammy, Juber has since established himself as world-renowned guitar virtuoso and entertainer.
Andrew York is one of todays best loved composers for classical guitar and a performer of international stature. His compositions blend the styles of ancient eras with modern musical directions, creating music that is at once vital, multi-leveled and accessible. Andrew received a GRAMMY as a member of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet during his sixteen years with the cutting-edge ensemble. Yorks compositions have been featured on GRAMMY-winning recordings by Jason Vieaux (CD Play, featuring Andrews iconic composition Sunburst, 2015) and Sharon Isbin (CD Journey to the New World featuring Andecy, 2010). In 2006 Andrew recorded and performed with the Atlanta Symphony for the opera Ainadamar by Osvaldo Golijov. The recording of Ainadamar (Deutsche Gramophone) won two GRAMMY awards.
Guitarist Janet Noguera is starting to make a name for herself in the contemporary fingerstyle scene. Currently working on a bachelors degree in classical guitar performance with Bill Coulter at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Janet has also studied with Alex de Grassi and Thomas Leeb. She performs around Northern California and has opened for Andy McKee. In 2014, Janets YouTube performance of her composition Aventuras Misteriosas won her the first prize in Lowden Guitars Lowden Young Guitarist of the Year competition. As the winner, she traveled to Lowdens Northern Ireland shop to pick out a guitar (choosing a Richard Thompson signature model) and to perform alongside Jon Gomm and Thomas Leeb.
