Wiregrass Blues Fest 2012
The second annual Wiregrass Blues Fest will honor Big Mama Thornton, who had her roots in Ariton, Alabama. Headlining the festival will be Mac Arnold and Plate Full O' Blues. Mac has had a long career in the blues, including touring with Muddy Waters and sharing the stage with many blues greats, including Howlin' Wolf, Elmore James, Jimmy Reed, Junior Wells, Big Joe Williams, and Big Mama Thornton, to name a few. Expect to hear some great blues and some stories about Big Mama from Mac. Other performers will include Debbie Bond, SharBaby, Rachel Edwards and Little Jimmy Reed. This event is being presented by Troy University Dothan and Alabama Blues Project.
The evening starts at 7pm with a free educational presentation on the life and times of Big Mama Thornton, featuring stories from Mac Arnold and Debbie Bond, and moderated by Gil Anthony, expert blues DJ from Blues Power Radio. The music performance will start at 8pm.
