Sema Ceremony of the Whirling Dervishes with a Turkish Sacred Music Concert
On Friday, December 14, 2012, at 7:30 pm, the Whirling Dervishes of the Mevlevi Order of America will present the Sema Ceremony honoring the great Sufi Mystical Poet, Hz. Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi, at Portland's Tiffany Center, Emerald Ballroom. The evening will feature the prayer dancing of the Whirling Dervishes, presented as it has been for over 700 years. In their traditional felt hats and flowing white garments, turners whirl in unison, attuning to the music of the heart. The evening features guest master musician Timucin Cevikoglu from Turkey, with musicians of the American/Turkish MOA Ensemble playing classical and devotional Turkish music.
This is a rare opportunity. The last presentation of the Sema Ceremony in Seattle in 2008 sold out prior to the event.
Remaining tickets will be available at the door (cash only) for $25 General. Student and Seniors (with ID) $15 at the door only on the night of the event.
Doors open at 7:00 pm. Please make sure to allow time for parking.
