On Sept. 29th at an underground venue (128 Brookside Ave) in Jamaica Plain, Ruby Rose Fox and her partner in crime, Cutter, are debuting their creation - SingRubySing#.
The evening centers around the release of Ruby Rose Fox's self-titled album and features local artists creating and performing works inspired by Ruby's music.
In the spirit of Julian Schnabel's acclaimed "Berlin," Cutter has created a series of images and video-scapes which add another dimension to Ruby's musical storytelling. Ruby and Cutter are also debuting three new songs sparked by their collaboration.
Both artists are also featuring their work independently. Cutter is displaying his art and Ruby is performing songs with the RubyRoseFox Band.
Three other Boston artists (Alexander Nemser, April Ranger, and Aimee Ranger) have also taken themes, ideas and music from Ruby's album to create new works specifically for the event.
SingRubySing# is hosted by performance artist Aimee Ranger. In addition to serving as emcee, Aimee will be debuting a movement performance set to a song from Ruby's new EP. Aimee is a Boston actor, clown and raconteur. She is company member with Whistler in the Dark and was last seen in Fen. For three years she hosted SOOP, a monthly storytelling potluck out of her home. Aimee also currently portrays Sharon in Boston's new serial theatre piece, BloodRoseRising.
Alexander Nemser is debuting a spoken word performance based on Ruby's new album. An acclaimed live performer and writer, Alexander's poems have been published in The New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly and The Paris Review. His essays have appeared in The New Republic, AGNI and The Yale Review. One of his poems is read aloud by a future CIA operative in Robert DeNiro's film The Good Shepherd. Alexander has also just completed his first book, The Sacrifice of Abraham.
Finally, April Ranger is reading poetry that has been inspired by Ruby's new album. April is an open mic, poetry slam standout and host of the Cantab's NorthBEAST Regional Indy Slam. A NorthBEAST Regional Individual Slam Champion herself, April is a true luminary in the Boston slam scene, competing in the World Poetry Slam in both 2009 and 2011. April's poems have appeared in Muzzle Magazine and Off the Coast. April is also the author of three books; We are not as Strong, The Sacred Heartbeat of Consent and Blood Oranges.
Beyond being a traditional album release event, SingRubySing# is an artistic mash-up of the ideas, themes and sounds the album contains. SingRubySing# is the union of music, art, poetry and performance creating a truly unforgettable experience.
