Synopsis: Fetus Envy is the filmmakers response to what she sees as a small segment of our community who insist on using the abortion issue for their own political gain, and the fallout and consequence for the average female citizen being used as a pawn in that game. Set in the not-too-distant future, Fetus Envy is a satire that takes a sobering look at what could happen if we continue to allow women's healthcare and reproductive rights to be politicized.

Bio:Melissa Maxwell is an actor, director and award-winning playwright.Originally written as a one-act play, FETUS ENVY was produced in the NY Int'l Fringe Festival (2003) and in Manhattan Theatre Source's Estrogenius Festival, and is published in their anthology "The Book of Estrogenius 2007". Her full length play SALT IN A WOUND is a Julie Harris Playwright Competition finalist and received 5 Black Theater Alliance Award nominations. UNREQUITED LOVE won her the New Professional Theatre's Our Words Award, received an Audelco Award nomination, is published and available through most major booksellers. As a director, Melissa specializes in helping playwrights develop new work. Directing credits include: Pearl Theatre Company, Soho Playhouse, Metropolitan Playhouse, National Black Theatre, New Perspectives Theatre Company, several events for The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, including a presentation at the International Emmy Awards. A veteran actor of stage, screen and television, see has appeared in The Thomas Crown Affair, The Sopranos, Law & Order, SVU and countless commercials.
