The Midnight Court with Sean Tyrrell
The Midnight Court is 18th century comic epic poem written in Irish by Brian Merriman and performed by the award-winning Irish singer and performer Sean Tyrrell in a new lusty English translation by David Marcus with music by Tyrrell. In the poem our hero falls asleep and dreams he is put on trial over the lack of luster in the bedroom department by the women of Ireland. It is a very gutsy piece, bawdy in parts without being offensive and filled with loads of humor, earthy lyrics and a very feminist message. Tyrrell has performed this approxiamtely 80 minute without intermission work all around the world to rave reviews, including by Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney who wrote, 'The poem was given a dramatic presentation with all the boost and blast-off that song and music and topical allusion can provide. The psychosexual demons were no longer at bay but rampant and fully recognized. Orpheus has been re-membered in Ireland' and by Eamonn McCann in Dublin's Hot Press, who enthused, 'The best night I've had for years in or out of bed was in Flagmount, East Clare. The pleasure out of bed came courtesy mainly of Sean Tyrrell in the production of Brian Merriman's classic, The Midnight Court. It was boisterous, colorful, risque, raunchy, hilarious, melodious and sexy.' For more, visit www.seantyrrell.com.
