Point Richmond Jazz presents the Ridgeway Trio featuring Evan Price, violin
The Ridgeway Trio plays the classical repertoire as well as original compositions and some familiar and latin and jazz standards, as Evan Price,violin and Jonathan Alford, piano, are arguably the most versatile musicians in the Bay Area in playing improvisational AND traditional classical music.
Evan Price is steadily becoming one of the most respected jazz violinists of his generation. A native of Detroit, MI, his musical background includes some earnest dues-paying in a variety of genres. He has performed with some of the masters of fiddle loreStephane Grappelli, Johnny Frigo, Claude Fiddler Williams, Johnny Gimble, Buddy Spicher, and Vassar Clementsas well as a diverse array of pop icons from Stevie Wonder and Led Zeppelins Jimmy Page and Robert Plant to comedian, Steven Wright.
Evan is a ten-year veteran of the world-renowned, paradigm-shifting jazz ensemble, the Turtle Island Quartet. During his tenure in Turtle Island, Evan gave over five hundred performances in concert venues from Latvia to Australia and had the opportunity to collaborate with many musical luminaries, such as Cuban clarinetist Paquito DRivera, and pianists Dr. Billy Taylor and Kenny Barron. He recorded five CDs with Turtle Island, two of whichFour + 4 and A Love Supreme: The Legacy of John Coltranereceived GRAMMY awards in 2006 and 2008 in the Classical Crossover category.
Jonathan Alford started playing the piano at 5. Taught by a musical father Jonathan played classical piano until he began exploring the world of jazz and latin music in his late 20s.Largely self taught Alford has become a mainstay of the vibrant SF bay area music scene. He has played with latin greats like Orestes Vilato, John Santos, Chocolate Armenteros and has performed at the SF and San Jose Jazz Festivals and other venues worldwide. He has started to concentrate on composing and is working on a musical with the singer/songwriter Stephanie Bruce.
Robin Bonnell is a freelance musician and lifelong resident of Berkeley.He is a member of the New Century Chamber orchestra under the direction of Nadja Sonnenberg as well as being the principal cellist of the Monterey Symphony and assistant principal cellist of the Santa Rosa Symphony. Since 1988, he has been the cellist of the Chamber Music Society of Sacramento. He is a former member of Earplay, Music Now, the Sacramento Symphony, and Illuminati, a New York-based big band. He can be heard on recordings on the Centaur, Knitting Factory, Soundspells, and Warner Brothers labels, as well as numerous jingles and the delayed broadcasts of the Chamber Music Society performances. He has taught for many schools and youth orchestras. Currently, he is on the faculty of Chamber Music Berkeley, maintains a small studio of private students, and is cello coach for the California Youth Symphony.
