Homecoming Concert with Dean Phelps and Patchwork
Dean Phelps and Patchwork are together again for a homecoming concert at Ten West Center for the Arts, 10 W Church Street, in Fortville, Indiana, on August 27th, at 730 PM.
Returning from Lakewood Colorado, Dean Phelps combines the rhythmic beat of thumb-picking guitar with a soulful vocal style. Part blues and part old school country, Dean stirs his guitar and voice into a repertoire of songs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries along with a few pages out of the hymnal, creating a style that is reminiscent of performers like Merle Travis and Doc Watson.
Dean has earned both local and national recognition for his guitar playing, winning the National Thumb-picking Guitar Contest at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Ark., and being named thumb-picking guitar champion at the Indiana Picking and Fiddling Championship.
Patchwork is Rick and Holly Garrett. Holly is a Fortville native and Mt Vernon Graduate, and Rick hails from Cowan, Indiana. Holly is an accomplished fiddle and violin player as well as vocalist. A highly sought after studio musician, Holly's recorded fiddle and vocals on albums by Aunt Muncie, McHalo, The Cosmic Preachers, Patchwork, Dean Phelps and more.
Rick, also a vocalist, plays guitar, hammer dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, and usually brings a surprise or two with him.
Both Patchwork and Dean are very much looking forward to bringing this concert to Ten West Center for the Arts. You can count on some stellar music, from old timey bluegrass to Gospel and just about everything in between. There'll be plenty of laughter and toe tapping in this evening of acoustic music!
