MJFF - Sweet Blues - PMA Saturday October 8 at Noon DOOR SALES AT 11:30am
Sweet Blues, A Film About Mike Bloomfield, Documentary, directed by Bob Sarles at the Portland Museum of Art October 8 at Noon. Presented by the Maine Jewish Film Festival in collaboration with the Portland Museum of Art and the Portland House of Music.

Tickets will be available at the door beginning at 11:30 AM on Saturday subject to availability

Running time: 21/2 hours - film is 57 minutes and will immediately be followed by a panel discussion and performance by Mark Naftalin. Ticket price includes the film, discussion and concert.

Music legend Mike Bloomfield was known for his searing, lyrical guitar playing, but the word he used to describe his music was  sweet.   You know, I like sweet blues, says Bloomfield in this lovingly crafted documentary from Bob Sarles.  His awesome instrumental prowess is on full display as the film celebrates the legacy of a hard-living, finger-fretting renegade. Bloomfield drew on African American tradition while burnishing his licks with a radical compositional approach reflecting the social and cultural upheaval of the 1960s. Sarles includes interviews with numerous people who knew Bloomfield including guitarist Carlos Santana, harmonica ace Charlie Musslewhite, singer/songwriter Country Joe McDonald, guitarist Elvin Bishop, B.B King and Al Kooper.

Panel Discussion will immediately follow the film and is free for all ticket holders. The panel will discuss Bloomfield and his music, the music scene of the sixties and seventies, the legendary Super Session and will include Q & A. Following the panel discussion, Mark Naftalin will perform on keyboards:

Mark Naftalin:Pianist, played with Bloomfield
David Dann: Mike Bloomfield biographer
Larry Milburn: Co-producer of Sweet Blues and cousin of Mike Bloomfield

**Ticket-holders should arrive 15 minutes early  to guarantee seating. The panel discussion is free to all ticket holders.
