Insect Photography at Lake Merritt
Get involved in citizen science by helping take photos in the Lake Merritt gardens for an insect guide! Insect Sciences Museum of California (ISMC) is sponsoring an intermediate-level insect photography workshop with Bay Area photographer (and CCNH naturalist) Damon Tighe.
This workshop will help to increase your skills in insect photography with DSLR and point-and-shoot cameras. In the field topics covered will be shooting with different lenses (telephoto, standard and macro) and how to use flash effectively in the field (direct, bounced, and filtered).
Please bring your camera(s), flashes, spare batteries and laptop computer (there will be a secured storage area for items while we are in the field). Bring drinking water & snacks, and wear comfortable hiking shoes, sun hat, and layers of clothing.
Below is the schedule for the day: 9:30 - 9:45 - Introductions 9:45 - 10:00 - Cover concepts to be covered in more detail in field Where to find insects -spiders -butterflies, moths -others 10:00 - 10:15 - walk to garden 10:15 - 11:00 - Lens techniques Standard lenses, telephoto lenses Macro lenses, bellows, 11:00 - 11:30 - Flashes On board flash, muting on board flash Bounced flash Ring flash (?) 11:30 - 12:00 - practice shooting and return to Rotary Nature Center 12:00 - 12:30 - uploading session and debrief at Rotary Nature Center
