Johnny Got His Gun (featuring Q&A with the film's star Timothy Bottoms) presented by the Norwich Radical Film Festival
Dalton Trumbo, part of the famous Hollywood 10, led a remarkable life of rebellion. A committed communist, he overcame witch-hunts, convictions and blacklists to win two Academy Awards under pseudonyms to pen classics like Spartacus and Roman Holiday.
This year - with his life now thrown back into the public eye with a biopic starring Bryan Cranston - the Norwich Radical Film Festival will be honouring Trumbo's legacy with a screening of his forgotten anti-war classic 'Johnny Got His Gun' (1971), which he also directed - starring Timothy Bottoms, Jason Robards and Donald Sutherland.
The film explores the living hell of Joe - a young man who is hit by a shell in the First World War. We are delighted to announce that the film's star, Timothy Bottoms, will be in attendance for Question and Answers and discussion following the film. Mr Bottoms, who also starred in the New Hollywood era classic 'The Last Picture Show', is one of the last surviving people to have worked with Dalton Trumbo - so along with an incredible insight into his own methods, this is a once in a life-time opportunity for the people of Norwich to hear first hand of the methods of Trumbo himself.
The screening will take place 6:30pm, Saturday the 27th of August at Cinema City, and tickets will cost £10 in advance, or £15/£13 with concessions on the door. Ticket price includes entry to film reception at Moosey Gallery after, where additional short film programmes will be on show.
To save money and attend the whole weekend's events for a fraction of the price, "All Access" badges are available for purchase direct from our website www.norwichradicalfilmfestival.com.
