Cara Latham, Soprano (Fiordiligi)
Mother of three, Music Teacher at the Agnes Irwin School and Director of Music at St. John Vianney Church in Gladwyne, soprano Carab Latham is busy with the obligations and richness of a full life. And, she loves to sing. To this end, and so grateful that she lives in an area that is so rich with opportunity, she has made a place for herself among wonderful artists and musicians here in the Philadelphia area.
Cara is noted for her wealth of artistry and musicianship, and her direct and powerful communication with an audience. In August, the press wrote of her performance in Faust, "Soprano Cara Latham is simply devastating as Marguerite and gives a ravishing performance." Drawing from an extensive professional music theatre background she has received critical praise for her many roles at regional and state theaters.
Misoon Ghim, Mezzo-soprano (Dorabella)
South Korean born Mezzo-soprano Misoon Ghim has performed with New York City Opera, and Opera Philadelphia as Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, with the Daegu International Opera Festival as Amneris in Aïda, and with Opera Delaware as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia. The New York Times praised Ghim's New York City Opera performance as "first rate," and The New York Post raved of her "dramatic sensitivity" in the role of Suzuki.
As a recitalist, Ms.Ghim made her New York Weill Recital Hall Debut with pianist Amy Yang, presented by Korea Music Foundation in 2013. And most recently Rutgers University Mallery Concert Series presented her in recital with pianist Charles Abramovic in the spring of 2015. Ms. Ghim has been a regular member with the Philadelphia chamber group Dolce Suono Ensemble since 2013.
Ms. Ghim's all-Baroque debut album was released in the fall of 2012 by Universal Music Group Korea. In conjunction with her album's release Ms. Ghim performed as guest soloist with the Korean Chamber Orchestra under the directorship of Maestro Min Kim at the Seoul Arts Center.
William Lim, Tenor (Ferrando)
Tenor William Lim hails from the Philippines and has recently moved to Philadelphia after finishing his vocal studies at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He has performed for various opera companies including Opera Philadelphia, Opera MODO, Poor Richard's Opera, Center City Opera Theater, Opera New Jersey, and Opera in the Ozarks. He has portrayed a wide variety of operatic roles including Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore, Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Gastone in La Traviata, Mayor Upfold in Albert Herring, Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi, and Guillot de Morfortaine in Manon. He was most recently seen as the Warholized Marilyn Monroe in Opera Philadephia's world premiere of Andy: A Popera.
Clayton Mathews, Baritone (Guglielmo)
Baritone Clayton Mathews, a native of St. Louis has been praised for his rich, colorful tone and profound character interpretations. In 2005, he won the South Florida Chapter National Association of Teachers singing competition; and he has performed professionally in opera companies across the United States. Mr. Mathews' most distinguished roles include Tarquinius (The Rape of Lucretia), Voltaire/Pangloss (Candide), Escamillo (Carmen), Amonasro (Aida), Don Alfonso (Cosi Fan Tutte), and Count Ceprano (Rigoletto). His musical theatre roles include Javert (Les Miserables) and Agwe (Once on this Island). Most recently, he premiered the role of The Maker in Fredric Chaslin's Opera Clarimonde for On Site Opera/Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice, and sang the title role in Don Giovanni with the Miami Summer Music Festival. Also on the concert circuit, Mr. Mathews performs with the Miami Symphony Orchestra, Newtown Chamber Orchestra and the Manchester Music Festival.
Anaïs Naharro-Murphy, Soprano (Despina)
Soprano Anaïs Naharro-Murphy enjoys performing a diverse repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary works in opera, song, and ensemble pieces. Performances this past year include the Baltimore Concert for Peace, the premiere of a Mass to St. Theresa, recitals with Hexacollective and the University of Maryland. As an avid recitalist, Anaïs has recently premiered and pioneered the contemporary compositions of Lonnie Jordan, Carlos Jose Martínez Fernández, Gilda Lyons, Daron Hagen, and Ned Rorem. On the concert stage, Anaïs has been a soloist for the Peabody Singers, the Peabody Renaissance Ensemble, and the Amherst Early Music Winter Workshop. Opera roles include that of 1st Lady/Papagena with Annex Theatre, La Fée (cover) with Bel Cantanti Opera, Adina with La Musica Lirica, Emmie with Hexacollective, Mercure with Bel Cantanti, Suor Genovieffa with La Musica Lirica, Countess Ceprano/Page with Baltimore Lyric Opera, Stage Manager with Peabody Opera Outreach, and Gretel with Little Patuxtent Opera Institute. Anaïs discovered a true love for music in high school when joining the Baltimore City College Choir under the direction of Dr. Linda R. Hall. Anaïs is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music with a B.M. in Voice Performance.
Brian Ming Chu, Baritone (Alfonso)
Hailed for his "rich and resonant voice...an impressive performer of wide range, agility, and expressive storytelling ability" [;;;;;;;;Monterey Herald];;;;;;;;, baritone Brian Ming Chu has performed numerous roles with opera companies from New York to LA, including signature performances as Marcello in La Bohème, Silvio in Pagliacci, The Count in Le nozze di Figaro, Leporello in Don Giovanni, and the title role in Rossini's The Barber of Seville. Last season, he sang the title role of Anton Rubinstein's rarely-performed opera, The Demon, with Russian Opera Workshop at Philadelphia's Academy of Vocal Arts.
Mr. Chu has been an oratorio soloist with The King's Noyse, Brandywine Baroque, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Princeton's Dryden Ensemble, Piffaro, Kansas City's Spire Ensemble, the Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia, Dolce Suono, the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, and the Carmel Bach Festival, with repeat appearances in the title role of Mendelssohn's Elijah, the Bach Passions, Haydn's Creation, the Brahms and Mozart Requiems, and Handel's Messiah.
