Andy Irvine
Celebrating the recent release of his critically acclaimed CD, 'Abocurragh,' one of the truly great Irish singers, among the handful that gets to the very soul of Ireland, Andy Irvine returns to our area. Hailed in Dublin's Hot Press as 'a tradition in himself,' Andy's highly individual performing skills have been cheered by audiences around the world from the mid-60's with the groundbreaking band Sweeney's Men, through the enormous success of Planxty in the 70's, the Irish supergroup Patrick Street since the 80's and currently with the world music powerhouse Mozaik. As a soloist Andy fills the role of an archtypal troubadour reflecting his traveling lifestyle and life-long influence Woody Guthrie in a rich and varied repretoire of Irish traditional ballads, American labor songs, dexterous Balkan dance tunes and a compelling canon of self-penned compositions. As the Sydney Morning News observed, ' What makes an evening with Irvine so special is that every note he picks and every line he sings comes straight from the heart. Everything he touckes is performed with honesty and conviction and his playing is never less than breathtaking. By any measure Irvine is one of the towering talents on the international folk scene.'
