From the Alhambra to the Scottish Rite Temple in Santa Fe
This premiere event, produced by Fernando Barros and Company in Santa Fe, NM, celebrates the 2015 submission of documentation to the Library of Congress on the design, construction and utilization of the Scottish Rite Temple, a building directly inspired by the Alhambra in Granada, Spain.
The flamenco concert of voice, guitar, oud, dance and video, highlights the historical links to Spain between the two edifices and cultures. The performers are the internationally recognized Fernando Barros Lirola, flamenco historian, composer and singer; Carlos Lomas, flamenco guitarist and oud player; Jose Valle "Chuscales", flamenco guitarist; Mina Fajardo, flamenco dance; and Pete Amahl, rhythm on darbuka, cajon and drums.
Additionally, we will introduce the influence and impact of Washington Irving, American author, (1783-1859) on the preservation of the centuries-old Alhambra, without whom, it is safe to say the Scottish Rite Temple might not have been built. Today the Temple is an historical site and has created an Historical Preservation Foundation to protect its legacy and future. Contact: (505)982-4414
