JACOPERA: An Evening of Classical Music
JACOPERA is made up of mezzo-soprano Jennie Legary, soprano Anastasia Rege, and soprano Christina Hourihan.  The three singers' goal with the formation of JACOPERA is to make opera tangible, relevant and accessible to American audiences.  Having performed their New York City debut in November, the trio will now make their west coast debut in January 2016 and we hope to see you there!

Jennie Legary, a diverse mezzo-soprano and versatile performer of opera, musical theater, jazz, and popular music, received her Bachelor of Music degree in Voice from University of Colorado at Boulder. She made her international debut as Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Mercedes in Carmen, and 3rd Spirit/3rd Lady (cover) in Die Zauberflöte with the Rome Festival Opera in Rome, Italy. She has been a guest soloist with the Solano Chamber Society, the Golden Community Choirs and the Mannes Conservatory Young Orchestra, and has performed previously with the Lyric Opera Studio of Weimar, Bronx Opera, Brooklyn Repertory Opera, Denver Opera, Opera Colorado, and CU Light Opera. She was a finalist in the Mirella Freni Academy Studio Competition (CUBEC) of Modena, Italy and participated in the Martina Arroyo's Prelude to Performance Program in New York City. She was a participant of the Mediterranean Opera Studio in Caltagirone, Italy, La Musica Lirica in Novafeltria, Italy and the San Francisco International Music Festival in San Francisco, CA. This year she returned to the Lyric Opera Studio of Weimar to reprise her role as Cherubino, and performed with the Tuscia Operafestival in Viterbo, Italy as the Principessa in Suor Angelica and Dorabella in Così fan tutte.

Anastasia Rege, soprano, received her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Connecticut and her Master of Music degree from the Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music. She has performed the roles of La Pastourelle in Ravel's L'enfant et les Sortileges, Modestina in Rossini's Il viaggo a Reims, and Giovanna in Verdi's Rigoletto. With the Hellenic Music Foundation of New York, she sang the role of Margot in a scene from Lehár's The Merry Widow in their 2013 Opera and Ballet Concert, and the roles of Europa in Strauss' Die Liebe der Danae, Gabrielle in Puccini's La rondine, and Enrichetta in Bellini's I Puritani in their 2014 Opera Scenes and Ballet Concert.  In January 2015, Anastasia premiered the songs "The Bear" and "Rocky Racoon: Raiku" from David Morneau's song cycle Neighbors: The Yard Critters, with text from the newly released children's' book of poetry of the same name by George Held. Anastasia was also featured in the Connecticut premieres of two contemporary operas, The Beautiful Bridegroom and An Embarrassing Position composed by Boston based composer, Dan Shore.  Anastasia has also performed as a featured soloist with the UConn early music ensemble, Collegium Musicum. The ensemble performed a modern premiere at the Quito Cathedral in Quito, Ecuador. Anastasia is also a church musician and currently holds a professional chorister position at The Saint Boniface Oratory in Brooklyn.

"Scintillating" Soprano Christina Hourihan is quickly moving up the operatic ladder. "Ms. Hourihan has a bright coloratura sound which is well-focused and well-suited totrills, arpeggios and wide skips" (Voce di Meche, Meche Kroop, 2015). This budding ingénue has performed roles such as Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica), The Bat (L'enfant et les Sortileges), and Papagena (Die Zauberflöte). Career highlights include singing the role of Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) with Delaware Valley Opera's Young Artist Program and singing Zerlina (Don Giovanni) with Nevada Opera's Young Artist Program. She joined the Mediterranean Opera Studio in Caltagirone, Italy, where she studied technique under Met Opera star Nelly Miricioiu, and performed in both Caltagirone and Palermo. After returning to NYC, Hourihan performed the world premiere of a set of songs called, "Neighbors: The Yard Critters," which were composed for her voice by composer David Morneau, based on George Held's book of the same name. Recently, she sang at Carnegie Hall as part of the concert entitled "A Prayer for Peace," where one third of the proceeds were donated to UNRHC for refugee relief.  She also collaborated with world-renowned pianist Kyungmi Nam to premiere "A Wind in the Leaves," a piece composed by Danny Leo for the 2015 Vox Novus Music Festival at Symphony Space.  Ms. Hourihan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Muhlenberg College and a Master of Music degree from the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College.  Christina currently resides in New York City and is a student of Jack LiVigni.
