Folks in Seattle may know Betsy Hansen as a talented and bubbly stylist at RADAR Hair and Records, which she co-owns with husband Johnny Samra, or maybe they've seen her playing bass in her band, Blank Its. With the help of Betsy's ingenuity and DIY sensibilities, RADAR has quickly blossomed into a welcoming and unique space for bands, designers, and artists. Before becoming a dynamic creative force in her Seattle community, Betsy lived in Bellingham, where she did more than her part to support the arts and music at the 3B and Show Off gallery, playing music in "Mystery Date", "A Frequency", and "Foxmange".
Betsy was recently diagnosed with cancer and she and Johnny need help. Fortunately, they have qualified for state medical assistance, but Betsy will be out of work for at least two months. Given the energy and resources it takes to make a small business thrive, Betsy's time away from cutting hair at RADAR and Johnny's role in her recovery will be a substantial blow to their income, as neither will have the capacity to earn money during this time. Our goal with this fund is to ease the immediate financial burden on these wonderful people by covering their mortgage and bills while neither is able to work. To reach this goal, we need to raise $18000 by June 15th. Betsy and Johnny are loved by many people, and a community like theirs has the power to help these two through a very tough time. Money is tight right now for lots of us, and anything you give will make a difference.
