Raised By Swans at The Rivoli
RAISED BY SWANS RETURN TO THE RIVOLI
Appearing live on the same stage where acclaimed Canadian stage and film director Atom Egoyan commissioned the band to perform in his movie Chloe (2009), Raised By Swans will unveil brand new music from its upcoming third full-length album during an exclusive performance at the Rivoli Backroom on June 2nd, 2012.
Preparing for the follow-up to its critically-lauded second album, No Ghostless Place (2010) - reviews by Exclaim! and Rhombus magazines described that recording as "13 moments of aural splendour...transcendent and angelic" and "starkly beautiful" - the band will play only a handful of carefully selected shows in 2012, bringing lead singer and songwriter Eric Howden's "haunting, slow-burn melodies" gradually out into the light.
The new songs come from a dark place, literally: Howden spent the last couple of months of 2011 in northern Iceland, writing music during the long winter nights, climbing mountains and hiking fjords during the fleeting days, living in complete solitude in a farmhouse in a valley that saw only four to five hours of sunlight each day.
Playing live for the first time in over a year, the band - which includes Andy Magoffin, Alex Wright, Brady Parr, and Ray Cammaert - looks forward to sharing both new music as well as songs from its previous two albums, Codes and Secret Longing (2005) and No Ghostless Place (2010), with fans and old friends.
Acclaim for Raised By Swans' No Ghostless Place:
"A moving, atmospheric journey through the catacombs of haunting vocal melodies and tenderly plucked guitars." - crackintheroad.com (UK)
"Raised By Swans have grown from their debut album, Codes and Secret Longing, which was enjoyable, but not even close to their sophomore album's transcendent, angelic presence. This album cannot be missed." - Exclaim! Magazine
"More than worth the wait.No Ghostless Place shimmers with emotion and fragile beauty." - Scene Magazine
Whether it's the mournful, heartfelt tale of "Night Fighter" or the sheer bliss of pop, hit-in-the-making "Hail Of Arrows", [the band] has a way with crafting a subtle, retrained happiness, or, in the case of the former, bringing me to tears with a mere suggestion..Raised By Swans are sure to light up the unsigned underground." sputnikmusic.com
"Raised by Swans excel in creating gorgeous ambient soundscapes of heartbreaking indecision, hope against the odds, disillusionment, and dogged perseverance." - muchmusic.com
