Hawaii gets to experience one of the giants of guitar when the Chris Duarte Group plays the Crossroads at Hawaiian Brian's, Monday, November 9, 2015, at 7pm., with the power trio's jazz-influenced Blues Rock that Duarte calls "Punk Blues."
Duarte is a musician well-respected by other guitarists and fans alike. Joe Bonamassa called him a "living legend." Eddie Van Halen stated Duarte was the greatest guitarist in the world. Ted Nugent put Duarte on his Top Ten guitarist list, while the annual Guitar Player magazine readers' poll often places Duarte at Number One.
Duarte has a chunky guitar attack like another Austin guitarist, the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, is not afraid to tackle Hendrix deep album tracks, while jazz aficionados can detect traces of jazz greats John Coltrane and early George Benson in his runs. He will be stopping in Hawaii on his way to a tour of Japan.
Opening for Duarte will be local guitarist Jeff Peterson. Known for his slack key stylings, Grammy winner Peterson shares with Duarte a love of Jazz and Classical that is evidenced in his playing. Peterson has a new CD coming out that will be for sale at the show.
Tickets are $25 reserved, $15 general admission ($20 day of show). For HPU students, admission is free with a current Student ID thanks to our friends at the HPU Student Activity Fee Committee! This is a benefit for the Hawaii Pacific University's Department of Communication Student Success Fund.
