"Beautify the Block" Rainier Vista Community Block Party
Rainier Vista Youth throw "Beautify the Block" Party to counter recent surge in youth violence

Local immigrant and refugee youth from the Rainier Vista neighborhood of South Seattle have come together to throw a neighborhood wide block party on October 1st in light of recent violence in the community. Named, "Beautify the Block", the youth led showcase will highlight local talent, community members, nonprofit orgs and business vendors with the intention to bridge the gap between neighbors and community based organizations, as well as demonstrate youth talent.

The RV neighborhood houses a mostly immigrant and refugee community from East Africa, South Asia and Latin America. Local agencies like Neighborhood House, Horn of Africa Services and others provide much needed assistance. The G.O.O.D. (Girls Out here Opening Doors) Girls and B.A.D.  (Build and Develop) Boyz naturally developed by local youth that utilized these services and have now branched off to create their own unique community org that highlights their passion for service, artistic expression, and business.

"These kids have unlimited potential & creativity, they could change world but they don't always have the tools and they don't see people like them doing it"  said Yasmin Habib, youth mentor for the GOOD Girls club. "For me it's about letting them know ' you can be that person you are looking for', that's what this block party is really about."

The "Beautify the Block" community block party will be held on Thursday, October 1st from 4 to 7pm in the Rainier Vista Central Park. Local acts such as Raz Simone, Nikkita Oliver and Jamil Suleman will perform as well as neighborhood youth, with appearances by local District 2 candidates Bruce Harrell and Tammy Morales.
