Flutist Camilla Hoitenga and composer/sound designer Jean-Baptiste Barrière present a multi-media concert featuring breathtaking electronic music by Barrière and Kaija Saariaho for flute, electronics and video.

Flutist Camilla Hoitenga is at home on stages all over the world, playing not only the C-flute but also the alto, bass, and piccolo flute and other varieties of her instrument. Her repertoire ranges from pre-Bach to post-Stockhausen, from concertos to music for flute alone from state-of-the art pieces for live video and electronics and interdisciplinary projects. Her recordings, in particular those with Kaija Saariaho, have won awards in France, Great Britain and in North America. She has performed concertos written for her by composers such as Kaija Saariaho, Péter Köszeghy, Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi and Raminta Serksnyte and worked with conductors like Marin Alsop, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Susanna Mälkki, Alan Gilbert, and Vladimir Jurowski in concert halls and important festivals all over the world. Hoitenga has taught at the State University of New York and at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen/Duisburg and continues to give masterclasses and workshops on various subjects for musicians of all ages.Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan (USA), Camilla Hoitenga now lives in Cologne, German and Sylva, North Carolina.

Composer and sound designer Jean-Baptiste Barrière is a key figure in computer music. A native of Paris, Barrière led the city's electronic-music hub IRCAM for more than 15 years, and his piece "Chréode" is recognized as a seminal work in the history of electronic music. At the same time, Barrière acted as technical assistant to many of the composers who arrived to work at IRCAM, including Kaija Saariaho, who became his wife in 1984.  In 1998 Barrière left IRCAM to concentrate on creative work, which included audio-visual presentations of his own  notably his Reality Checks series.  His works have been commissioned by Contemporary Museum of Zurich, GRM/INA, Berlin Festspiele, and Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. Often collaborative, and frequently depending on interactions between live participants (whether musicians, dancers, or spectators), Barrière's work does not lend itself easily to recordings  which makes this concert an especially rare and exciting event.
