Carlsbad Music Festival Weekend Pass
The 12th annual Carlsbad Music Festival is a 3-day summer celebration of "adventurous music by the beach" on Friday-Sunday, August 28-30 in the charming seaside Village of Carlsbad.


VIP Weekend Passes good for Reserved Priority seating at all Mainstage concerts plus VIP reserved seating at "New Currents" series concerts of your choice* - $80

Weekend Pass for admission to all 3 Mainstage concerts - $40


*"New Currents" series is free-admission, but reserved seats are only available with the purchase of a VIP Weekend Pass.


ABOUT CARLSBAD MUSIC FESTIVAL

Carlsbad Music Festival, called "one of the area's most innovative music showcases" by KPBS, features 60+ performances of creative music of all kinds. These include 3 ticketed Mainstage concerts, the FREE Village Music Walk on Saturday, FREE Concerts in the Park on Sunday, and the FREE "New Currents" stage on Saturday and Sunday. The Festival programming is an eclectic mix of creative and adventurous music ranging from contemporary classical, jazz, and world music, to indie rock and musicians who work across genres and fall between the cracks.

The Carlsbad Music Festival is a nationally-acclaimed presenter and a beloved community event that draws thousands from near and far for its unique programming and beautiful setting.


ARTIST HIGHLIGHTS

Dozens of adventurous bands, ensembles, and soloists will take part in the 12th Annual Carlsbad Music Festival. The ticketed Mainstage Artists are New York-based violinist and electronics wizard Todd Reynolds, Los Angeles-based acclaimed contemporary pianist Vicki Ray, and Encinitas-based master Indian sitarist Pandit Kartik Seshadri.

Highlights of the 60+ free performances include San Diego Opera's "Opera Exposed!" in a first-ever collaboration between our organizations, a New Orleans-style second line march through the Village by Euphoria Brass Band, up and coming psychedelic indie pop by Inspired and the Sleep, 1920's and 30's Americana music from urban blues to mountain fiddle by the G Burns Jug Band, traditional Persian classical music by Koroush Taghavi, and contemporary works for piano duo by HOCKET.

Todd Reynolds is known as one of the founding fathers of the hybrid-musician movement and one of the most active and versatile proponents of what he calls 'present music'. For years the violinist of choice for Steve Reich, Meredith Monk, Bang on a Can, and a founder of the string quartet known as Ethel, his compositional and performance style is a hybrid of old and new technology, multi-disciplinary aesthetic and pan-genre composition and improvisation.

Vicki Ray is one of the leading interpreters of contemporary piano music. Known for thoughtful and innovative programming which seeks to redefine the piano recital in the 21st century, Vicki's concerts often include electronics, video, recitation and improvisation. She has worked with some of the most prominent composers of our time, including György Ligeti, Pierre Boulez, Steve Reich, Elliott Carter, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Steven Stucky, David Lang, and Julia Wolfe.


PANDIT KARTIK SESHADRI

Encinitas-based master Indian sitarist Pandit Kartik Seshadri is a world-renowned force in the field of Indian Classical Music. He attracted widespread attention when he began performing full-length solos at the age of 6 in India. Seshadri began his initial training with Shri Shankar Rao and further trained and toured worldwide with acclaimed guru Pandit Ravi Shankar, and has collaborated with composer Philip Glass and the Brazilian instrumental group UAKTI on the critically acclaimed Orion project. Seshadri also heads one of the largest programs of Indian Classical Music in the USA at the University of California, San Diego.
