Nina Gerber and Chris Webster in Concert
Arena Theater presents an evening with Nina Gerber and Chris Webster in Concert on Saturday October 22 at 7:00 PM, doors open 6:30 PM. The Arena Theater bar and snack stand will be open.
Nina Gerber is well known in Northern California. She performed with Kate Wolf for most of Kate's career, beginning as accompanist, eventually collaborator, arranging and producing some of Kate's albums and even compiling some posthumous releases.
Since her accompaniment of Kate Wolf first earned her recognition, her acute skills as performer, producer and arranger have continued to deepen. Her contributions to acoustic music have earned her a following as loyal as for the numerous high talents she has accompanied - proving the shadows equal to the spotlight in the creation of honest, powerful, and beautiful music.
Whether it's on her own "solo" CD - a collaboration with twenty of the folk world's finest - or producing, arranging, or performing with countless others, Nina continues to prove with her guitar that some of the truest and most emotional communication requires no words. Still, when combined with the voice of another musician of heart, the result is affecting in an unforgettable way.
Nina has performed and/or recorded with: Nanci Griffith, Greg Brown, Lucy Kaplansky, Mollie O'Brien, Dave Alvin, Karla Bonoff, Ferron, Rosalie Sorrels, Barbara Higbie, John Gorka, Laurie Lewis, Cheryl Wheeler, Terry Garthwaite, Tom Paxton, and many others.
"Nina's guitar style is wide and brave. Acoustic or electric, she sounds beautiful, smokey, precise, full of the licks you love to hear, even though it sounds like you're hearing them fresh, for the first time, and some of them... you are. She's a player, folks... we're lucky to have her near..." -Herb Pedersen
"Remarkable accompanist... A star in her own right... Gerber's contribution is magnificent..." San Francisco Examiner
Chris Webster is a Davis, CA based singersongwriter and will perform with Nina.
What critics say about Webster:
"Webster's is an authoritative voice that manages to make existential angst, romantic confusion and spiritual longing sound uncommonly appealing. Each note she sings conveys a probing, acute sensitivity to the little complications of life and love, with a sexy edge to boot."
-No Depression Magazine
"Webster's magic derives from those ineffable qualities of vocal grain, emotional nuance, timing and phrasing possessed by the truly great and moving singers of any style."
-San Francisco Bay Examiner
"...perhaps some rootsy, bluesy rock that's not just for the kids? We suggest Davis singer-songwriter Chris Webster's Something in the Water. She comes highly Raitt-ed, but this velvet voice is all her own. Hard to say just what it is about the lovely lope of "Out Here in the Real World" that brings the tears to your eyes. The integrity, maybe? Between that one, the handsome cover (with Jackie Greene) of Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready," and, well, all the other tracks, Webster shows warmth, grace and range. She's a class act."
