Featuring Live Piano Score Composed and Performed by Ben Model

One of the seminal films in the gangster genre, director Josef von Sternberg's silent drama stars Clive Brook as “Rolls Royce,” a down-and-out gentleman who becomes friends with bank robber “Bull” Weed (George Bancroft). Using his brains and Weed's muscle, Rolls Royce helps his pal become king of the city's crime syndicate, but things go afoul when Bull’s moll “Feathers” (Evelyn Brent) starts taking an interest in the new recruit. Ben Hecht won an Academy Award for his screenplay.

USA, 1927, 80 min., b/w, silent

Ben Model
For over two decades Ben Model has served as resident silent film accompanist for The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Ben composes and improvises all his own scores and performs in a style that both evokes the silent era and reflects a contemporary (and younger) audience’s appreciation of music and film scoring •
