Grays Harbor Sprout Film Festival 2015
People First and The Arc of Grays Harbor are proud to present the 2015 Sprout Film Festival. It will be a fun and inspirational evening with 11 domestic and international films exploring living with the spectrum of abilities. The films will be presented by the Director of Sprout International, Anthony DiSalvo.
The films to be presented, in no particular order are:
Be my brother - Winner of the top prize in Australia's 2009 TropFest Film Festival; A young man's charm and charisma challenges the prejudices of a stranger at a bus stop.
The Magic of J-Mac - A US-made documentary about sports and friendship.
Jacobs Turn - An inspirational short documentary about a boy with Down syndrome and his love of baseball. The film shows how Jacob's "turn" at bat and on the field was a thrill for him, but more importantly, an event that transformed the hearts of everyone in his town.
By Any Other Name - USA. One day the monotony of Jared's life is up-ended when he meets his pretty new co-worker Marissa. Before they know it, they develop a close friendship, one unlike either of them ever experienced before.
The Interview - Australia. Thomas Howell gets more than he bargained for in his interview at a prestigious law firm; an insult about his tie, a rendition of Harry Potter and the chance to change the lives of a father and son.
Garrett's Fight - A young man with downs pursues his dream of becoming a fighter.
Close my eyes - Breaking stereotypes through music.
Anything is Possible - USA. In this short video, we meet a boy whose little sister has Angelman Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder. Through a poem he wrote, we see the strong bond that exists between these siblings.
Extra Ordinary - Canada. A glimpse into the lives of two young individuals with Down Syndrome living happy and fulfilling lives. With the goal of increased acceptance for the Down syndrome community, this film was created to challenge the associated stigmas. People with Down syndrome can, and do, lead meaningful, happy lives.
I love grilled Cheese - Canadian film. Libby provides some insight about the joys of living with her best friend, and big brother, Max, who has Down syndrome.
Go for it - Music video by Portland's Cam Lasley.
One Question - Directed and presented by Anthony DiSalvo of Sprout, 35 people with developmental disabilities answer the same one question: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would you change?
