Cowboy Mouth
A late addition to American Rep Theater of WNY's 2010-11 season, ART is proud to be presenting Sam Shepard's wild Rock 'n' Roll tale of expectations, kidnapping, a dead crow and the promise of the new Rock 'n' Roll Messiah. Directed by WNY theater veteran, Larry Smith, this gritty tale written by the original bad-boy playwright, Shepard, will be presented at the newest arts performance space, Buffalo East.

Join the Devil's rejects, Cavale, the kidnapped Slim and their dead pet crow, Raymond, as they tear apart their dreams in a purple haze of expectations, promises and their ghosts of Rock 'n' Roll past. Their decline, reflecting the great American society around them, can only be saved by the emergence of the great Rock 'n' Roll Messiah. Can the Lobster Man save the world from obscurity or just serve up a bag of drawn-up butter?

Depending on the evening, performances of "Cowboy Mouth" will be followed by one or two additional Shepard pieces entitled "Cowboy #2" and "Savage/Love".

"Savage Love" is a collection of poems/dialogs Shepard and American Theater director and playwright, Joseph Chaikin assemble to reflect "the difficultly of expressing tenderness, and the dread of being replaced (Chaikin)."  Directed by Matthew LaChiusa and featuring Courtney Weather, Nikki Markey and John F. Kennedy, this assembly of passion and savagery is bound to warm (or tear out) every Valentine Sweetheart.

Reflecting Jean-Paul Sarte's "No Exit" vacation in Hell, the obscure Shepard piece "Cowboy #2" places two cowboys in the middle of their personal Hell. Americanized, these two souls face their torment fueled by demons disguised as marauding Indians & hungry vultures, a tasty breakfast menu and an unquenchable thirst never to be satisfied but always renewed. Classic fecking Shepard. Directed by Matthew LaChiusa and features Courtney Weather, Nikki Markey and John F Kennedy.
