Lindsay Mac -- cello & vocals
Homegrown Coffeehouse Needham, MA
Cello? Yes, Lindsay Mac plays cello -- and sings. The last time she played at the Homegrown, in 2007, some people came expecting classical music. Wrong. Her music is fresh, hip, unexpected and utterly captivating, offering a fresh, alternative look at everything you've ever considered "folk". Lindsay Mac started out classically trained, but now she stands while she performs and plucks the cello strapped around her small frame, offering original songs in the folk/jazz tradition, creating a sound that is groundbreaking and compelling. She has appeared on the front page of the Boston Globe and been featured in AOL's Spinner, and the New York Times' About.com. Her song "Cry, Cry, Cry" was chosen as a Finalist in the 2010 International Songwriting Competition out of 15,000 entries and was a winner in the 16th annual Billboard Song Contest.
