Season of Seasons: Winter
Join the Cascadian Chorale for a musical exploration of the four seasons. Each concert during our 2010 season will explore its unique time of year. We will celebrate the changes in nature together with holidays and other cultural traditions. Several composers will re-appear throughout the year, including Randall Thompson, Edward Elgar, Ástor Piazzolla, and P.D.Q. Bach. We will draw particular attention to music by Northwest composers such as Morten Lauridsen, Bern Herbolsheimer, Giselle Wyers, Chris Fraley, and our new Composer-in-Residence, Linda Gingrich. Works by Monteverdi, Haydn, Brahms, Holst, Barber, Whitacre, and many other masters will demonstrate the diversity, whimsy, and beauty found throughout the year.
Snow, star-filled nights, wind… nature reserves some of her most touching and intimate moments for the winter. The Christmas season takes center stage with Holst's miniature cantata "Christmas Day" and a cycle of three carols by that comical genius, P.D.Q. Bach. This concert will feature our Composer-in-Residence, Linda Gingrich, in several arrangements of seasonal favorites. John Rutter, Ástor Piazzolla, Randall Thompson, and Harold Darke will also contribute to our festival of the beauty and magic of winter.
