Season of Seasons: Autumn
Join the Cascadian Chorale for a musical exploration of the four seasons. Each concert during our 2010 season will explore its unique time of year. We will celebrate the changes in nature together with holidays and other cultural traditions. Several composers will re-appear throughout the year, including Randall Thompson, Edward Elgar, Ástor Piazzolla, and P.D.Q. Bach. We will draw particular attention to music by Northwest composers such as Morten Lauridsen, Bern Herbolsheimer, Giselle Wyers, Chris Fraley, and our new Composer-in-Residence, Linda Gingrich. Works by Monteverdi, Haydn, Brahms, Holst, Barber, Whitacre, and many other masters will demonstrate the diversity, whimsy, and beauty found throughout the year.
Thanksgiving, Oktoberfest, All Soul's Day, back-to-school… cultural events litter the fall, and we will celebrate them with music. As befits an ensemble in the forested Pacific Northwest, we will present several works about our arboreal friends, including "I go among trees," a recent work by local composer Giselle Wyers. Brahms's masterful motet "Warum ist das Licht gegeben dem Mühseligen?" captures the dark richness of the season. Selections from Randall Thompson's choral cycle "Frostiana," works by Romantic composers Edward Elgar and Wilhelm Stenhammar, and a Piazzolla tango will complete our musical evocation of autumn.
