The Girls in the Band Film Screening
Start your Jazz Fest off right with an amazing documentary on some super extraordinary female musicians while supporting band camp scholarships for deserving young ladies! 'The Girls in the Band' tells the untold stories of female jazz musicians and band leaders from the 30s and 40s, tracing their legacies through the present day! An original piece of artwork by Marcus Akinlana will be raffled and hors d'ouvres will be available from area sponsors including Dooky Chase, La Divina Café, NOCCA Culinary Arts Department, Juan's Flying Burrito, Challah at Me Bread Co, NOLA Grow Your Own, NOLA Kitchen Gardens, Casa Borrega and more!
Doors will open at 5:30 for refreshments and pre-film music from Grace Rapier of NOCCA Jazz Studies Dept. Limited parking is available in the adjacent lot and street parking is on Broad and D'Abadie. The film begins at 6:00 with a run time of 87 minutes.
Watch the trailer at the attached video link and then grab your tickets today! Seating is limited so advance tickets are strongly recommended.
All proceeds benefit scholarships for deserving young ladies to attend the Young Muses Summer Band Camp, an initiative of Sistaworks in partnership with Musicollaborative and Encore Academy with assistance from the Jazz & Heritage Community Partnership Grant Fund.
