Archie Fisher
Hailed in 'Sing Out!' as 'one of Britain's finest song interpreters,' and at the forefront of Scottish folk music for nearly half a century, the legendary Fisher makes his long-awaited return to Kuumbwa 13 years after his memorable concert there with John Renbourn. A beloved in his homeland as host of BBC Radio Scotland's award-winning 'Travelling Folk' show, which he left after 27 years earlier this year, Archie has been inducted into the Scots Traditional Hall of Fame and been awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire), a prestigious honor nominated by his peers and bestoved by Queen Elizabeth. Archie's performances of traditional ballads, many of which he first introuced through concerts and recordings to the world outside Scotland, such as 'The Broom o' the Cowdenknowes' and 'Will Ye Gang, Love,' are widely considered definitive and he has greatly enriched the tradition through his haunting original compositions, which include 'Men o' Worth' and 'Dark Eyed Molly.' Archie's latest CD, 'Windward Away,' which also includes selections from a recently discovered master tape for a proposed 1980 album, was met with rave reviews, including from 'Vintage Guitar,' the juxtaposition of new and old proves Fisher is as much a master then as now... Fisher has lost none of his musical spark.' For more, visit the website at www.myspace.com/archiefisher.
