Music, She Wrote
"Music, She Wrote" is a project of the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music that focuses on the compositional achievements of women composers. The series began in March 2008 during International Women's Month and was created to highlight the achievements of women composers.
The performers on this year's concert include: violinists-India Cooke, Sandy Poindexter, Yehudit; trombonist-Angela Wellman;bassist-Karen Horner; pianist-Victoria Theodore. Most of the compositions featured were written by members of the ensemble.
Also featured on the program will be the Frederick Douglass Youth Ensemble (FDYE) of the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music. The ensemble is comprised of some of Oakland's most promising young musicians. The FDYE opened the Jazz Stage at Oakland's Art & Soul Festival 2009. They have performed at the Oakland Marathon 2010 and Uptown Unveiled in 2009. The ensemble was formally introduced at the 3rd Annual Alternative Fourth of July Celebration at the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music, July 3, 2009.
This concert is a fundraiser for the Youth Programs of the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music. Thank you for supporting the inherent resilience of our youth!
