The Bernard and Reva Broder Memorial Concert
With his Ribs & Brisket Revue, saxophonist/bandleader Paul Shapiro explores the unique Yiddish-jazz repertoire of the 1940s, featuring songs mostly about food and mostly by the non-Jewish likes of Slim Gaillard, Mildred Bailey, Cab Calloway, and Peggy Lee. There are plenty of bagels, matzo balls, and gefilte fish in these tunes, given a contemporary twist by Shapiro and his R&B-fueled outfit.
