Parenting More Than One Child: How To Build Positive Relationships With Multiple Children
Whether a parent has one child or has multiple children, many of the same basic parenting skills that parents must develop are still the same in certain areas of the parent and child relationship. Parents in general are faced with many emotional challenges among themselves and within their family. There is no denying that parents with multiple children have a different set of skills they must learn in order to effectively parent each child individually and the family as a whole. Parents with two or more children may have a harder time being patience, appropriately bonding and may feel overwhelmed at times.
Many have difficulty relating and understanding each child, even when the stages of development among the children vary a little and especially when they vary a lot. The way a parent communicates and disciplines a three year old is very different than the way they should communicate and discipline an 8 year old or a 14 year old. Without this understanding of why the stages are critical to each child's self-reflection and growth, many problems may appear in and outside of the household.
