Dog Star Shines !
(Darkroom Theater, San Francisco, CA) - On Thursday, 12/21/06 at 8PM, the Darkroom Theater in San Francisco will be hosting a benefit for Rocket Dog Rescue sponsored by the American Fido show. All profits from the event will go to Rocket Dog Rescue.
Rocket Dog Rescue is an all volunteer nonprofit group dedicated to saving homeless and abandoned animals from euthanasia in overcrowded Bay area shelters, literally giving them a second chance at life. American Fido is a live comedy spoof of the hit TV show American Idol. It is an open mike contest to find the Worst Act in San Francisco.
American Fido will join up with Rocket Dog Rescue to host a bill of acts highlighting the owners of Rocket Dog Rescue pets showcasing the skills of the pets they have adopted. Each of the owners will be given a short set to do a performance with their pet. At the end of the night, the audience will vote for the Worst Act of 2006. The crowning ceremony includes a tiara, a robe, a sash entitled Worst Act of 2006 a bouquet of plastic roses and of course the There She Is Miss American Fido theme song for the requisite tear shedding runway walk.
The Rocket Dog Rescue acts will be competing for the Worst Act of 2006 with other comedy, music, spoken word, animal, vegetable and mineral acts that compete for Worst Act at each month's American Fido show. However, for this show, the Rocket Dog Rescue acts will go on first. The show's producer, Mark Tyne, will videotape the show with the goal of pitching American Fido to network and cable stations with the goal of producing American Fido for TV or cable.
