Everyone is welcome at Wilderness Torah events! We create pluralistic community celebrations to reconnect us to the earth-based traditions of Judaism. Please join us to learn about and celebrate the harvest holiday of Sukkot!
Sukkot is the third in the Jewish cycle of Pilgrimage Festivals, honoring the end of the yearly agricultural cycle. During Sukkot, we wave the four plant species in celebration of the earth's abundance and honor the waters that make that make this season possible. At Sukkot on the Farm, we camp, eat, and pray next to the fields to immerse ourselves in the essence of this harvest holiday. In our community-built sukkah, we observe Shabbat and Sukkot ritual; eat gourmet food freshly harvested from the fields; explore the connections between Jewish spirituality, nature awareness and food issues of today; and gather around the campfire for song and celebration. This is a family friendly event, complete with a kids area and programming.
This year, we are extending the festival by one night so we can prepare for the chag (festival) together and welcome the Sabbath fully ready to dive into the sweet waters of rest and celebration. Arrive Thursday for a delicious meal, and prepare for celebration on Friday by exploring the farm, harvesting from the fields, building and decorating the community Sukkah, and preparing yourself welcome this special Shabbat.
What's included: Three delicious, organic, super-local meals a day, with food right from the farm, starting Thursday night and concluding with Sunday breakfast. We'll have a light, simple breakfast and hot, catered lunch and dinner Friday and Saturday. Shabbat celebration and Sukkot ritual, including the waiving of the four species and a water drawing ceremony. Camping, learning sustainability skills and Jewish earth-based teachings, farm tours, daily prayer and meditation opportunities, yoga and much more. You need only bring personal gear and be prepared help co-create this event by doing a fun volunteer shift either before the event or on site. Food will be kosher-style and vegetarian.
