Challah Day 2023
Join members of Beth Israel Congregation for a fun day learning to break challah, the Jewish sabbath bread!
Lisa Mael and Kennth Druckenmiller will show you how to make, knead and braid a traditional loaf or, as an added twist, how to make a loaf filled with chocolate, nuts or other sweet surprises.
While the bread bakes, we'll enjoy a meal featuring homemade matzah ball soup, salad and apple cake! Let us know if you're a vegetarian - we've got a great lentil soup we can make for you instead!
You'll also get to see our sanctuary during a short talk on the significance and symbolism of challah in Judaism.
You'll head home with wonderful memories plus your own freshly-baked challah, still warm from the oven.
We're offering two sessions: one at 10 a.m., the other at 2 p.m. Space is limited - we only have enough room in our oven for 12 loaves at a time, so that's how many students we have each session!
If the entry fee is too much, give a call to Susan Schwartz, 570-441-2774, nomad6@ptd.net. We offer scholarships!

Sorry - our building is very old. It's not very handicap accessible. We're working on that.
