An active performer, pedagogue, and church musician, Timothy Olsen teaches a joint studio of high school, undergraduate, and graduate organ students at the UNC School of the Arts and Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. Dr. Olsen also serves as Cantor at Augsburg Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem.
Dr. Olsen maintains an active performance schedule as soloist and as collaborative artist. He has performed recitals across the United States, frequently performing with trumpeter Judith Saxton (including a recent CD, Landfall). Dr. Olsen has been featured as soloist with orchestras, and performs as organist for major choral works. Dr. Olsen is the first-prize winner of the 2002 National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance sponsored by the AGO. He has recorded two CDs on the Raven label prior to the recent album with Judith Saxton, and has been heard on American Public Medias Pipedreams, WXXIs With Heart and Voice, and WCPEs Great Sacred Music.
A native of Frost, Minnesota, Dr. Olsen holds degrees from Concordia College (Moorhead, MN), and the Eastman School of Music. During his tenure at Eastman, Dr. Olsen served as TA in the organ and theory departments, and as a faculty member of the Eastman Community Education Division. He has served academic posts at Oklahoma City University and Ithaca College, in addition to sabbatical replacements at Binghamton University and Cornell University.
He lives in Pfafftown, NC, with his wife and three sons.
