LET'S STAY TOGETHER, presented and followed by a Q & A w/filmmaker Joshua Bee Alafia
"Where are all the fathers?" asks Parker Washington, reflecting on the state of the African-American family.  He decides to do a documentary on why African American families are having such a hard time staying together, and has convinced him self that soul singer legend, Al Green's new album will magically bring folks together.  His friend Freddy struggles with his mixed-race identity and becomes determined to deliver his Filipina girlfriend from her, "shame of being black" confusion.  Noah and Carmen want to be rock stars, but Carmen becomes pregnant and forces Noah to confront the fact that he's never met his father.  Tariq's ex-wife brings their 8-year-old girl to stay with him while she pursues her career, much to the dismay of Tariq's blues singer girlfriend Ishara.

Let's Stay Together examines race, culture and identity through investigating our disunity. Given a book, Freddy studies meditation, and his foothold in the construct of his racial identity is loosened and oneness begins to pervade in his perceptions.  Parker must prove his sanity as his ex girlfriend Nzinga becomes pregnant and wants to have the baby alone due to his Al Green obsession.  Ishara uses music to relate to Tariq's daughter, and is moved by writing a version of Al Green's, "Let's Stay Together."  Noah meets his father and takes guitar lessons from him, unraveling his mystery.  Without trying to provide the answers, we discuss some of the questions, and ultimately surrender to the adhesive power of Al Green's magic.

This showing of "Let's Stay Together" will be presented by its filmmaker Joshua Bee Alafia, who will follow the showing with a Q & A.
