Auditioning via Alexander
The First Three Wednesdays in November, Patrick Mellen is teaching Auditioning via Alexander.
The Alexander Technique is not something you do instead of what you have been doing; it is something you do along with what you have been doing. The Alexander Technique has the potential to break old habits, refresh stale material, and make you feel safe during your auditions.
The first portion of class will be used to introduce the basic tenets of the Alexander Technique. The second portion will be used as the class sees fit: auditions, cold reads, singing (acapella), monologue, public speaking, job interview - whatever might cause you to tense up.
Bring in material for an upcoming audition or material you have been working with that is ready to be refreshed. If you want to do a cold reading, I'll have scenes on hand. If you have a presentation, feel free to present. As individuals are working in front of the class others are asked to actively participate by practicing the Alexander Technique as they observe.
Each session repeats the basic approach of previous classes but adds new material so that those who are returning students may find a deepening appreciation of the Alexander Technique
