They debuted last May and packed the Backroom and sold out, so this will go fast. Also, Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello - of course, owners of the Burren, will be opening with a very special guest from Tommy's days in London. Do NOT miss this.
Proud to be claimed as Galway City's new "Super Group", BackWest was formed in late 2016, and in March 2017 the group were delighted to announce the release of their debut album titled "The Long Walk".
Featuring Brendan Browne (Button Accordion), Maureen Browne (Fiddle/Vocals), Peter Vickers (Bodhrán/Percussion/Dance) Shane McGowan (Guitar/Vocals),BackWest delivers Irish traditional music, song and dance to their audiences in a highly unique fashion. Their performances are vibrant, energetic and yet foster the organic nature of their home tradition and heritage. Take a look below...
The Burren Backroom series is now well established as one of the most sought-after boutique series of trad presentation in the world. It has already created already dozens of memorable, intimate, informal presentations held in a truly atmospheric space which was founded by well-known traditional musicians Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello in Davis Square, Somerville, Massachusetts.
Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music. As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.
