Pickling and Fermentation; or What to do With all the Green Tomatoes?!?
Come out to the Food Forest and learn about the basics of pickling and veggie fermentation. We'll harvest the Food Forest's most abundant crop this time of year, green tomatoes! Together, we'll harvest a bunch of green tomatoes, then turn them into pickles. We'll talk about fermentation as another way of preserving the bounty and start some jars. You'll receive handouts with instructions and recipes for both processes.

You'll need to bring two jars for the class. Wear comfortable clothing and dress for the weather as class is outdoors.

Teacher Bio: Diana Law  Has been an active member of several P-Patch projects in the city of Seattle; including Longfellow Creek, Community Orchard of West Seattle, and the Beacon Food Forest. Teaches classes in Herbalism and gardening, including classes taught directly to students, and in coordination with other local teachers, and through organizations such as the American Herbalist Guild Seattle Chapter, Sustainable Capitol Hill and the Beacon Food Forest, and other local events. Helps coordinate classes for other teachers as the Class Administrator for the Beacon Food Forest.
