Lost Empires: The Last Days of Music Hall & Variety with Wilf Lower
Lost Empires: The Last Days of Music Hall & Variety with Wilf Lower
Friday 16th November, 10.30am - 12.30pm
From pubs to palaces, music hall provided popular entertainment for all, surviving both cinema and radio, but television proved too much and it died although variety struggled on, and its traditions continue.
Join professional lecturer Wilf Lower as he gives a light-hearted look at the theatres, the performers (in front and behind the curtains!) from Marie Lloyd to Max Miller, Gracie Fields to Ken Dodd; and the very British French Revues of the fifties: all from an unusual and unique perspective thats revealed during the talk. Features film clips.
Suitable for ages 50+
The Art of Conversation is a year long project in partnership with Lyrici Arts, Medway Adult Education and Medway Age UK to tackle isolation.
Funded by the Brook Trust Fund and the Lawson Endowment Fund.
