Detroit, a play written by Lisa D'Amour and presented by Rebel Alliance Theatre, explores the intense economic and social unease that swirls just beneath the surface of a normal suburban neighborhood. Well groomed back yards, patio umbrellas, barbecue grills, and comfortable homes comprise a familiar landscape. But the relationship that develops between seemingly stable couple Mary and Ben, and their new neighbors Kenny and Sharon (both of them young, broke, and just out of rehab) reveals how little we can take for granted in a landscape of financial uncertainty and shifting concepts about middle class values and the definition of success.
