We will be sending you via email a "Dog Owner's Manual: Post Avoidance Training for Dogs" that you can use as your own refresher. Remember it is a "Dog Owner's responsibility, by being well informed about rattlesnake/porcupine/skunk behavior and ecology, that keeps your dog(s) our of harms way. The avoidance training is "not" full proof but it assist in minimizing the risk of your dog being bitten by a rattlesnake, or quilled by a porcupine, or sprayed by a skunk.

2018 Boise Rattlesnake/Porcupine/Skunk Avoidance Training for Dogs Workshop
Rattlesnake, Porcupine and Skunk Avoidance Training for Dogs

The Idaho Chukar Foundation offers classes each year that are designed to teach dogs to avoid the sight, sound and smell of rattlesnakes, porcupines and skunks.

Training sessions for 2018 will take place between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, at Veteran Memorial Park in Boise; and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, at Julia Davis Park in Boise. Experienced dog handlers will work with your dog one-on-one and focus on your dogs reaction and body language to a snake, porcupine or skunk. The avoidance behavior is taught by putting a remote controlled electronic collar on the dog. When the dogs attention is on the snake, porcupine or skunk, an unpleasant stimulation is applied to the dog. The stimulation is similar to static electricity. The session takes about 15 minutes depending on the dog, though most dogs learn the avoidance behavior quickly.

There is a Fee for the training.

NOTE: A dog can be registered for ONLY ONE training session  rattlesnake, porcupine or skunk per day. You can register your dog for a second training session that is two weeks apart on Saturday, June 2 at Boise's Julia Davis Park (see Date and Prices). Veterinarian behavioral canine science has indicated that a second training session within the same day or week is too much stimulation for one dog.

Please note that NO refunds are available.

You will be emailed an Appointment Confirmation (and Time) with additional Event information within 24 hours.
